Question: What is your opinion about the meat of animals that are killed without saying Takbeer? What would you say about the meat of such animals as are killed by electrocution?

Answer: There is no doubt about the fact that the Muslims can take halaal only. Moreover, the halaal of the People of the Book (ie the Jews and the Christians) is also allowed. However, the meat of an animal that has not been halaaled by them cannot be allowed. Moreover, the meat of an animal killed in the manner you have mentioned cannot be considered halaal.

As regards the question of Takbeer (taking Allah's name when halaaling an animal) is concerned, animals halaaled by the people of the Book may be deemed halaal even if there is a possibility that the Takbeer had not been said. As Takbeer is usually said even by the People of the Book when they halaal an animal, it may be assumed that the meat is halaal unless it is proved that the Takbeer had been deliberately avoided. Similarly, if it is found that they deliberately avoid saying the Takbeer (or taking Allah's name in some other form) or that the ritual of Takbeer (or that of taking Allah's name in some other form) is not practised anymore in their society, animals slaughtered by them cannot be regarded as halaal. Moreover, if an animal has been sacrificed to a deity other than Allah or has been sacrificed as an offering to a synagogue or a church, it cannot be deemed halaal even if Allah's name had been taken.
